Sharda students visit Russia, Canada and Thailand
Students pursuing management programmes at Sharda enjoyed cross-continental trips this summer as part of exchange programmes that the university has with several world class institutions. Three batches of students from MBA and BBA went in three different directions. They spent one month each in Russia, Canada and Thailand during June and July.
A total of 30 students of BBA programme visited Russia’s historic Ural Federal University, which has been named after country’s first president Boris Yelstin. They were there for a month-long exchange programme. Not only did they gained knowledge of various subjects but also learnt to interact with people of other cultures, a skill greatly needed in today’s globalized world. It was an opportunity for them to build personal and professional contacts.
Ural University is located on the other side of Ural Mountains. Sharda students were luck in the sense that weather was extremely pleasant during the time they stayed there. The area also has a number of water bodies allowing the adventure-minded much more fun than they could possibly have had locally.
The trip was led by a senior faculty from the School of Business Studies, Mr. Salil Bhatia. He summed up the trip as “a wonderful learning-cum-educational experience for our students.”
Another batch of 30 students of MBA (First Year) programme went to King’s College, Canada, for a month- long stay. This international exposure was part of their MBA curriculum. They were exposed to a culture of discipline and responsibility. King’s College is a highly rated institution. The Canadian education system is amongst the best in the world. Besides, Canadians are amongst the most civil and polite people on earth. This way, Sharda had an additional advantage of being in a very tech-savvy and law-abiding society.
Mr. Mridul Dhariwal, a senior faculty in SBS, was the supervisor of this trip. He said, “The students have returned from Canada with a stronger physique, higher confidence and lots of learning. They immensely enjoyed the excellent facilities available in Canada, be it the library system or the Olympic-size swimming pool.”
Dr. Hari Shankar Shyam, another senior faculty in SBS, led a group of 40 students on an educational tour to Thailand’s Payap University. The students were exposed to world class teaching delivered by highly qualified professors. They undertook courses relevant to Thai and ASEAN economy. After Thailand, the students also visited neighbouring Laos and Myanmar. “Visit to both these countries had the element of fun and adventure, two attributes essential in a good manager. It was a novel experience for our students with learning lessons which would enrich their life in future,” said Dr. Hari.
